STORE LOCATOR - FRANS BOONE, SLUIS

Tucked away at the border between Belgium and The Netherlands you can find Frans Boone, Sluis
Frans wasn't in today, he was in Italy on a business trip selecting some products and brands which can fine tune the collection for Fall 2013. I was welcomed by Menno with a hot coffee and a nice chat. The store is separated by a big red cabinet into two different rooms. At the entrance you feel the rough outdoors with collections like RRL, Pendleton blankets, Red Wing, Gitman Vintage,  & Howlin'. The other room has a yellow sofa as a great eye-catcher, here you find a Salvatore Picolo shirts, Boglioli, Alden, Tricker's just to name a few brands. Frans Boone is cherry picking in every collection, and create special editions as well. You may call it "Very Frans Boone"

SQUEEZE ME, PLEASE!

Wow can somebody squeeze me, please!

Filson teams up with Harris Tweed for a couple of stylish (and by the looks of it, tough as nails) new briefcases. Featuring the classic Filson finishings — bridle leather, brass hardware — that the all-American company is known for, but with a bit of Scottish charm thrown into the mix. Call it a geo-sartorial meeting of the minds (that you can carry to work with you).

BLUE JEANS @ CENTRAAL MUSEUM

Tonight, I was invited to see the Blue Jeans exposition @ Centraal Museum, Utrecht. This beautiful displayed time travel trough jeans is put together by Joachim Baan & Pauline Broekman, daughter of the owner of Thom Broekman & De Rode Winkel. This year the Broekman stores celebrates it's 175 anniversary and dedicates it to denim. With some help from business partners they even got an 18 century painting on display called Master of the Blue Jeans, Woman begging with two children. (for more pics see Long John)

EDWIN, WHAT'S IN STORE NEXT YEAR?

I had the change to have a sneak peak at the Edwin showroom in Holland. But who is Edwin?

Established in Japan 1947

Mr Tsunemi had a passion for denim, which inspired him to import them directly from the United States as no denim was manufactured in Japan at that time. Used, worn-out and dirty denim which had to be laundered and mended by hand in order to sell on to his customers. In 1951 domestically manufactured denim was available for the first time in Japan. This product was expensive and of inferior quality compared to its American counterparts. Mr Tsunemi was driven to create his own denims, with greater sophistication in fits, washes and quality. In 1961 Mr. Tsunemi crafted the first pair of Edwin denim jeans. Utilising the letters D, E, N, I & M (reversing the M creating a W) he created the brand name ‘Edwin’. You can find Edwin Jeans at the best Denim Stores in Europe like 14Oz, Burg & Schildt, The Globe, Tenue de Nimes, Country House and Mann just to name a few.

BASEBALL KNITS FROM THE PAST

From 1869 when professional baseball was founded to 1925 these jackets were a key part of any team’s uniform, worn during the latter months of the season when temperatures began to dropp off.  Up until 1898 all sweaters were actually shipped in from Scotland, but overtime teams switched over and began employing a small batch of American craftsmen (and women) who would knit them by hand.  During these early days of baseball each team had their own distinct sweaters, that either copied or contrasted their regular jerseys, with their team logos proudly emblazoned on the front.
